The REAL South Park!

For all of you South Park fans... here it is, the REAL South Park. Just like the cartoon, it really is a little mountain town, like 3 blocks is it! I didn't see Cartman, but there are some for sure look-a-likes!!!

Hoosiers Pass - No Passing PLEASE!

Hoosiers Pass is the back way for us to go to ski country (Breckenridge, Copper and Vail). I just get cracked up every time I go on this scary and crazy pass. Here is a photo of the road sign!! What a Hoot!!!

The Great Sand Dunes of Colorado

We saw the sign while cruising down I-25 to New Mexico. So on the way back home we made a detour West about 75 miles to a very unusual phenomenon.

Truly this is one of those things you will just have to visit one day and see it for your self. It appears so small, but in reality it is very massive. It sits at the base of all these fourteener's giving it this idea of being not a whole lot of anything.

Sad for me, Jeff and Claire were only able to go out and hike it while I had to sit on the side lines. My wheel chair would not have made it 3' in all that sandy sludge. Jeff and Claire did tell me that the river that runs in front of it has "waves" that are like the ocean and come up to your waist and then roll back. The sand, which I have a sample is dense and not so sandy at all. In fact it is very rocky.

Again... you really should see this for yourself!!!

Oh.... We stopped at a coffee house outside of the park and noticed we were about to loose Jeff's bike from all of the winds we were driving through. CO and its 60mph gusts... good times!!!

Taos, NM - Saturday the 24th

Jeff was in Angel Fire doing his pre-ride of the course. Claire had never been to NM and Taos was the perfect place for her to see some real beauty. Taos is a very eclectic and artsy town. The canyons and mountains that surround it make it a Top 5 choice for places to live. No wonder so many celebrities live here (hide out on their ranches is more like it).

This is basically some photos of local shops and buildings. Of course, one of Claire and me... our reflection with me in a wheel chair bundled up. LOL

4 Day Hospital Stay

I really meant to get a bunch of photos of my nurses, some good needle pricks, you name it.... just was not really mentally there over those 4 days from Wednesday until Saturday.

I did get one of Dana, who stayed with me the entire time and helped out.

Ooooooh mama! Dana got one of me just after I came out of the shower, about fainted on the floor from nausea and drugs, had to pee - had to puke, on oxygen - on IV, gown not even on me, just draped to cover the goods..... well, she got it! It is off the chain hideous and ridiculous, but yes, you know me, it will be posted even if I will be shamed years from now!

Left Knee Surgery - Round Two; April 30th

Dana took me up to Vail this early Wednesday morning so that I could have my CT done prior to my surgery, which was scheduled for noon.

Dana was with me throughout the entire process - even as far as going back for my pre-op. Now, when someone walked by with a needle or something that looked like a needle, all you would feel is a gust of wind because that is how fast Dana was out of there.

I watched as much as I could watch. Standard IV, the leg prep and oh yes, the anesthesiologist do my nerve block. That was one hell of a needle. Very cool how that works.

Well, here a few photos of the femur bone being screwed back together, my lovely new scar that I could stuff a small child inside like a kangaroo pouch.... but I digress. Enjoy!!!

The "Discovery" Appointment; April 29th

I was discharged this past Saturday with just a dislocated knee from the ER. Considering I was not able to put any pressure on my leg, as the ER doctor told me I would be able to do, I assumed I had re-torn my brand new ACL that Dr. Peter Millett @ Steadman Hawkins had put in December of 2006. I made an appointment for that Tuesday so that Millett could check out "his work".

I got there, was severely swollen still in my knee... obviously more than I should have been after this type of injury. Millett had already had me stop by to get an MRI prior to our visit. A few things made him a little curious, he took me down the hall and had me do 3 more X-Rays.

My glorious news for the day was that the ACL held up like a champ! My problem was, I had been sent home from the ER on Saturday with a broken Femur! OUCH! Millett tried to get me back for surgery that day.... just didn't work out. Surgery would be tomorrow, on Wednesday.

This is Dan the Man by the way.... showing me my jacked up knee!!
